At the request of
Yeah, that's our nickname for our one dog and she actually responds to it now (hee hee).
Anyways, I've posted here before quite sometime ago and our living space has changed quite a bit since then.
First things first:
-We bought our place 4 years ago this December 17
-We live about 45 minutes north of Denver
-We don't buy anything on credit so we've been pretty slow in populating the house, but everything we do buy has been carefully considered and is something we love. We decided after we bought our first place that we weren't going to waste money on things just to fill the space or for a quick fix.
-Because of the above our upstairs is basically bare, but our 2009 house goal is to get most of it done this year. Hooray!
-There is still stuff that remains unfinished in our living area. For example, I want to replace the eames chair in the seating area with a more substantial chair that looks better visually with the armchair and couch. We still need a lot more things on the wall for the picture/object area. It looks pretty lame right now. I have lots of things to nitpick about the space right now, but I won't bore you all with my whinging. ;)
-Everything you see was purchased from high end furniture places, antique/vintage furniture stores, ebay, random non-chain furniture places, random online non-chain furniture sites, or chain furniture stores like crate and barrel, cb2, west elm, room and board, anthropologie, or ikea.
-I made the baroque rust orange and cream pillows and the big green and white geometric pillow on the other eames lounge
-I like mixing mcm with older pieces. I like an eclectic but cohesive interior. (Eclectic doesn't mean just throwing together a bunch of mismatched junk!) Even though we live in a modernist place, I cannot stand the dwr look. It's cold, impersonal, characterless, and tasteless. I think a space becomes more personal and more reflective of its residents when it's developed organically and gradually. It's true when interior designers tell you to buy only what you love. Don't just fill your space up with crap because it's what's trendy, you saw it in someone else's house, or because you needed it now, now now. Think about what works in your space and if you truly love it-buy it.
Blah, blah, blah, that's enough of my manifesto. On to the pics!

This is what you see immediately to your left when you top the stairs (see first picture, which is a couple years old now!). Our place has a private entrance on the first floor, our living and kitchen areas on the second floor, and two bedrooms/bathrooms and a "loft" area on the third floor. As a note: it's very hard to photo the space during the day due to the floor to ceiling windows!

This vintage knoll credenza was one of the first pieces of furniture we bought for our place. I went apeshit making terrariums a couple years ago and the one on the right is one of the ones that survived.

The seating area. The lounge chair looks ridiculously tiny, and the wall-uh oh I'm nitpicking again!

Behind the armchair looking at the couch and coffee table. The couch is vintage and we had it reupolstered in wool Maharam fabric.

Looking from couch toward armchair, and our xmas tree (gets taken down after New Years). A big floor cushion (for extra seating) is propped on the wall, and a newly framed painting (from etsy) propped there as well since we haven't decided where in the house to hang it yet. I'm also obviously a huge plant fiend.

Looking from the stairs to second floor down on the seated area. I did kind of a crappy photo stitch job. Blah.

The console table behind the couch.

Looking from behind console table toward living space.

Our vintage desk directly to the right and perpendicular to the console table. My husband's old imac is going to be replaced with a laptop and this will become a spot to pay bills.
I did not photo the kitchen area as my husband was sketching on the table and the dining chairs need to be replaced in January. Something to post for later, I suppose!

I love this little red desk lamp we found at a local antiques shop.

Ok, I had to post a photo of this because it's one of my favourite Xmas gifts from my mother-in-law. It has polka dots!
Cheers!

Are you from Denver? I'm originally from Pittsburgh, but moved out here for the hub and a life upgrade. While I'm one to talk, this poor state has been overrun by Californians (and their bad driving).

Jawdrop.
Seriously. Amazing. I love all of the rustic wood pieces, the colors... I wish my place could look like this... but... I have a 2.5 year old and a 7-month-old.

Oh yes, quite the challenge with the little ones! My parents didn't replace their ratty carpet until we were all in our teens because it just didn't make sense with little kids, although we were verbally slaughtered if we were caught wearing our shoes on the carpet-oh man does that bring back memories of sneaking into the house on our knees!

You get no sympathy from me.

Natural light is the only thing I will not compromise on in my dwellings, ever. Tons of it are essential.

It's lovely. Great balance and scale, and it's been flawlessly photographed too. (yeah! No flash!!)
On a more mundane note, I was curious if you had any information on the red wall in your living room? I'm getting ready to colour block a wall in my own place, and i wanted to go with a red, but so far haven't found the right tone.

Thank you, and yes boo to flash, unless, well I like a setting on my camera that actually gives a yellow tint to the flash and actually looks good. :)
We had searched all over for the perfect shade of coral and could't find it, so we took a magazine we had that had a wall with the colour we wanted and had the paint store scan it and mix it for us. Hope that helps!
