I live in a tiny, 41 sq m condo in Bergen, Norway, and last year we renovated our disgusting old bathroom. The small space was definitely a challenge, as was our very tight budget. There are a few details missing still but I'm really pleased with how it's turning out. :)

Let's start with some before-pictures:

The old bathroom basically consisted of two small rooms (with an open doorway in between), where you'd first enter from the bedroom into a small laundry area, and then a step up into the shower/sink area. The laundry area had room for a washing machine and not much else, there was a strange cabinet built around the water heater in the corner, but the narrow door made it really impractical to store anything in there. Having the shower and the (tiny) sink so close together meant one person could not be brushing their teeth while the other was in the shower. Other than being really impractical, the room was just plain out disgusting, much worse than the photos show. The tiles and grout were so dirty, and tiles were coming loose from the walls. The floor tiles had this kind of grainy surface which made it feel like it was always covered in sand. It was dark, and the only heating in there was a tiny oven, which I'm pretty sure was not safe to keep in a wet room. The above photo is from the realtor, and it makes it look MUCH better than it was, but you can see the dirty tiles in the bottom left, and also kind of how the room was split in two. Here are some more befores (the photos with stuff in them are from the previous owner):

And this is how it looked with everything ripped out:

And the afters (well, almost done anyway ;):

The small mirror and the furniture is from Ikea, they were the perfect size for our space. The big mirror was from a flea market for about €10. To the left of the sink is where we tore down the wall between the two rooms. We also had downlights and underfloor heating installed, but apart from that we did everything ourselves.

We made a little bench/seat to make the most of the dead space in the corner there.

The new shower is AMAZING!

When refinishing the walls we discovered an old doorway that had been covered up. We used it to incorporate shelves so we wouldn't need any extra furniture in the tiny room. At the bottom there is a laundry hamper that we built. The small ladder was washed up from the sea at our summer house a decade or two ago. Now we use it to reach the dryer, which is behind the curtain to the left.

We opened up the old cabinet in the corner to fit the washing machine and dryer, on top of eachother above the water heater, and then hid it all behind a curtain. My sister calls this the laundry tower!

what a stunning transformation :-) beautiful...!

yay you posted! as i said, looks amazing! :D

Bravo!!!

I love that you kept the white.

This is gorgeous, but just one question - is there a toilet?

haha, guess this'll end up in the same sort of discussion as with the dutch house last week :D

so beautiful! nice job!!

beautiful bathroom! you really used every ounce of space without making the room feel stuffed at all.

(and, man, i hear you on the weird sand-like coating on the tiles... i rent an apartment in holland that has that, so i have bath mats in all the places i walk mostly to avoid it. haha)

oh wow! I'd love to take a shower in that unique little corner. what a neat idea!

I normally don't like the type of tile on your floor, but it really works here. It's great.

The floor tiles were actually my boyfriend's one and only wish for our bathroom, he wanted the feeling of natural stone underfoot. I was a bit skeptical because I thought they weren't really my style, but I love them now, it warms up all the white I think. It might have been a bit too stark if I'd gotten my way. ;)

Amazing job, seriously.

The old ladder looks really nice there too. :)

I'm loving your built-in shelves, as well as the little ladder.

This is so clean and lovely.
Also, I have a thing for mason jars...

Fantastic!! It's how I imagine the bathroom of some super-chic boutique hotel to be. :D

Aww thanks, that's a fantastic compliment! :D

It looks like a SPA! :)

Again, that's a lovely compliment, thank you! :D

Fantastic job! It looks very inviting. Can I come over and take a shower? ;)

Oh my gosh, it's gorgeous! :X I love the tile.

Gorgeous makeover! I wish my bathroom looked so chic like that :)

I'd definitely like to see the rest of your home.

I don't think the rest of our home is quite ready for saucydwellings just yet, the bathroom is definitely the most done in the house so far! But hopefully it won't be too long. ;)

it looks lovely. i think the little ladder is awesome! the touches here and there of brown wood make it so appealing.

I feel a little "mean" saying this, because you put such hard work into it, but I think it looks very similar to the way it looked before (albeit cleaner/newer).

That being said, I really like the way it looks both before and after. The white does make it look like a spa (and I guess all white is what reminds me of the "before) pictures). You also did a really good job incorporating storage into such a small space.

You did an excellent job with the sink, it doesn't look ugly anymore with cabinets underneath!

I completely disagree with the assertion that they look very similar.

Also, Scandinavian bathrooms are funny. Washer in the bathroom but no toliet? Then again, having the washer in the bathroom or kitchen (which I've seen a lot in England) seems more practical than separate room like in the U.S.

So clean and organised!

I wish I could be bothered to put the detergent in pretty containers like that. It would make my rather dull laundry room a lot more appealing.
